He Laid Aside His Garments–Part 4
There is another beautiful lesson to learn of Jesus at the feet of His disciples. He was girded with a towel. The ministry of the towel is, perhaps, undervalued. When once it had been applied there was no residual evidence that there had been any defilement in the first place. This is a glorious facet of truth regarding God’s word. It has a happy ability to cleanse us by completely displacing from our minds that which has defiled us and filling us instead with that which is wholesome, healthy and pure.
Thus cleansed we may have ‘part’ with Him. It has often been observed that in John 13 no details of the Lord’s supper are brought before us but there are impressed upon us the conditions for its enjoyment. John’s feet were in His hands before his head was upon His breast. There must be cleansing before communion. He greatly desires that we have ‘part’ with Him and there is thus a responsibility which devolves upon us to live in such a condition that this might be enjoyed.
