God and History: Part 1–His Intervention

God and History: Part 1–His Intervention

Over the next three weeks we are going to post three excerpts from Mark Sweetnam’s book on God’s word in human history, Sanctify Them Through Thy Truth. This week it is on God’s intervention in history. Watch out for a review coming soon.

Our God is a God who has intervened in history. The God revealed to us in the Bible is not the remotely transcendent deity imagined by some. Though God 'inhabits eternity' (Isa. 57:15), He has created a universe bounded by time as well as space. But He did not create time and abandon it to randomness. Rather, He intervenes in it, reveals Himself in it, and, in the Incarnation of Christ, Himself entered into. The shape and texture of history come from God and reveal His wisdom and might just as surely as every other facet of His marvellous creation.
